Turned out to Be Sony's CMOS Camera, Nissan's 'Around View Monitor'

An image processing DSP embedded in a camera module displays a 3-part split image on the monitor.
Sony Corp developed a CMOS camera to be used for Nissan Motor's "around view monitor," which displays an overhead view of a vehicle with four cameras (See related article).

So far, a small number of CMOS cameras have been adopted for vehicles because their performance, such as noise under low-light intensity, is worse than that of CCD cameras. Though Sony did not reveal the performance of this CMOS camera, the company said, "of course, it reached the required level for vehicles."

Also, the CMOS camera is "more expensive than a CCD camera of the same performance."

The image processing DSP, which corrects distortion of images and changes viewpoints, is embedded in a camera module. The dimension of the camera is 23.4 × 23.4 × 21.7mm.

"Even though it has a built-in DSP, we kept the size down as small as conventional in-vehicle CCD cameras," Sony said.

The number of pixels is 1.3 million. The frame rate is 30 per second. The view angles are 186.2° in a horizontal direction and 147° in a vertical direction.
